DUBLIN, Ireland: Amazon's popular Alexa Echo devices are now being offered with an Irish accent.

Alexa, the voice-activated smart device, will offer the Irish accent to hundreds of thousands of users throughout Ireland.

Amazon officials say the company has spent months perfecting an accent with localized 'th' sounds which are different from the U.S. and British versions of Alexa.

Also, Irish phrases have been integrated into Alexa, allowing users to ask, "Alexa, what's the craic?" and "Alexa, who's your man?" which will be recognized by the device.

In its initial rollout, the new accent will only be available in a female voice.

"We knew we had a big challenge on our hands, as there's so many different and distinct Irish accents," said Dennis Stansbury, Amazon's Alexa country manager for Ireland and the UK, as quoted by buzz.ie.

"Our team of language experts created a number of different accent variations, and we tested them with internal and external Irish natives to help us define the final accent."

Amazon officials said the new Irish-English voice option is available on all Echo devices beginning immediately. However, a software update is required and the device's location needs to be set to Ireland.
