UAE bypass pipe now ready for oil

The UAE has opened its strategic oil pipeline which bypasses the Strait of Hormuz.


UAE Oil Minister Mohammed al-Hamli has said the country will soon start exporting oil at a rate of 1.4 million barrels per day.

Gulf countries have been waiting on the completion of the pipeline which will provide an alternative route from the normal passage, which Iran has threatened to block.

The oil minister said tests on the pipeline had been started and oil would start flowing in earnest in August.

The new pipeline links the Habshan oilfields to the port of Fujairah, which on the Gulf of Oman.
