Sahara storm heads for Scotland on hottest day of the year so far

Apr 9 2011 Ben Spencer FREAK warm weather could see Scotland hit by a SANDSTORM this weekend. Sand whipped up from the Sahara desert is being carried towards Britain on balmy southerly winds. And it could fall on Scotland when it mixes with rain showers forecast for tomorrow. Met Office forecaster Helen Chivers said: "There was a large sandstorm in Morocco, which meant a large amount of sand in the atmosphere." Yesterday, temperatures reached 19.3C (66.7F) in Edinburgh and 18C (64.5F) in Aberdeen. And today is forecast to be the hottest of the year so far. The west has missed out on the heatwave so far this week. But the forecasters say it will spread right across the country today.
