Major NHS Highland scheme delayed

The single largest capital project planned by NHS Highland for 2011-12 has been delayed following a cut in funding from the Scottish government. The board had proposed opening a day services centre at Raigmore hospital in Inverness. It would have provided day surgery, endoscopy and renal services. A reduction in funding from ?29.9m it received for the current financial year to ?13.6m for 2011-12 has led to the project's postponement. NHS Highland said other significant projects would go ahead. They include a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, called the Cath Lab, and a second linear accelerator, both at Raigmore.
